During the morning, countless of mourners momentarily entered the capital's aviation hub, interrupting a formal proceeding where President William Ruto and government representatives were receiving Odinga's corpse with military honors.

This incident caused a brief stoppage of airport operations.

Crowds also overwhelmed adjacent streets and sought to penetrate the government complex, where the administration had originally scheduled the open visitation.

Political Impact and Ethnic Support

Although primarily recognized as an government critic, Odinga served as head of government in 2008 and also established a political pact with the president last year in a political journey marked by evolving coalitions.

He commanded strong loyalty among followers, notably in his Luo community based in the country's west, many of whom maintain he was prevented from obtaining the highest office by vote manipulation.

Many of Odinga's supporters, who were not living in 1991 when Kenya became a multi-party democracy, expressed respect to Odinga's efforts as an activist.
