Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
